The Internet is such a wonderful invention. It revolutionises the dissemination of information and changes the way we communicate, make friends and do business. It quenches the thirst for knowledge for the information junkies and the "curiosity cats" as well as setting the trend of doing shopping online.
Online shopping and local shopping websites are becoming more and more popular among Singaporeans in the recent years. According to Nielsen, about 39% of the Internet users have made at least one purchase online and they tend to stick to the shopping sites they know, with 60 percent saying they buy mostly from the same site. Aside from familiarity when selecting which sites to shop at, Singapore’s Internet users also tend to rely on recommendations.
So why do shoppers choose to shop online? The reasons are obvious. Online shopping is popular mainly because of its speed and ease of use. Shoppers can click on their mouse for their purchases to be delivered right to their doorstep, instead of having to lug their shopping bags and jostling around with other people. In addition, shoppers can use the Internet to get the best deals through online store ratings and reviews. They can also get unique finds which are unavailable in the local retail stores.
With the trend of online shopping getting increasingly popular in Singapore, it should not come as a surprise that in the near future, online shopping may be the main form of leisure for Singaporeans.
